Flour and Rice Sack Pillows

 

 

 

I found a couple of colorful flour and rice bags at garage sales last year.  I think I paid $1 each for them.  I finally broke down and bought a new sewing machine the other day, so today I made pillows out of them.  It was super easy and a fun way to add some color to my rooms.

 

Here's what I started with.

 

 

I cut them down a bit to get as much of the graphics as possible while keeping them a good size for pillows.  With the rice bag, I put in a Pottery Barn insert and it fit perfectly.

 

With the Turkey Flour (???)  What the heck is Turkey Flour anyway?  :)  With the Turkey (Brand)  Flour bag, I used batting and filled it.

 

Now I've got a couple new neat pillows for very little money.  My kind of decorating!  :)

Placemat Pillow for $2.50

 

I was in HomeGoods yesterday and wandering...  Oh, I absolutely love wandering through that store! 

 

 

I found these placemats on clearance. 

 

 

 

Even though I thought they were great looking placemats, I decided they'd work even better as pillows.

 

I thought about pulling my sewing machine out, but decided to try them by hand.  I could always rip it out if it didn't look right. 

 

I turned the placemats right side facing each other, then just kept the edges really straight and stitched away. 

 

 

I left about 6" unstitched so I could fill it with batting. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Once I filled it, I stitched up the last 6" and now have a great looking pillow.  I had the batting on-hand, so each pillow cost me $2.50.  I'd call it a success!  :)

Spring Boutique

My friend Ali from Just Me and I are having another boutique this weekend.  We're really looking forward to it.

Here are some of the crafts I've been working on for it.

I love making these pillows and was so excited to find this graphic from Graphique on Etsy.  I collect old typewriters and recently found a cool piece of art that is similar to this.  (if this pillow doesn't sell at the boutique, I won't be upset!)  :)

 

I also found this ampersand on Graphique's site on Etsy.  I think it's a fun pillow.

I made these topiaries and added a little bow to each.  

I made lots of towels.  I especially love the cloche graphic from The Graphics Fairy

I bought these labels from PickYourPlum.com several months ago.  Their deals are great!

I found this set of cannisters at an antique store.  I added the chalkboard labels (also from PickYourPlum.com several months ago)

Here I used a canning jar, added sand, a candle and a chalkboard tag and now have a fun hostess gift.

We had a boutique in November and had a great turnout.  We're keeping our fingers crossed that it's just as successful this time!

Living Room Transformation

Our new couch was delivered yesterday.  I am so excited to work on the living room.  It is attached to the kitchen, so it is used a lot!

(I have to find something to put on the big empty spot on the wall.)

I love that there is now lots of seating.  

 

I love these pillows.  I saw them in the Sundance catalog and they were way out of my price range.  I was in the Sundance outlet a few years ago and there they were! 

 I was able to find a place for my 'new' chair.

  The end table that we redid this summer fits nicely between the two club chairs. 

 

I like the little bird here that I bought on our recent trip to Chicago.

 I have to keep my apothecary jars in a spot where the cat can't constantly get near them.
